Melissa Kaplan-Macey
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Urban Planning

Melissa Kaplan-Macey is a Senior Associate at BFJ Planning, a multidisciplinary firm specializing in planning, urban design, environmental analysis, transportation planning and real estate consulting. She has experience in both the public and private sectors and specializes in land use planning and zoning with a focus on comprehensive planning, community visioning, land use controls and implementation techniques.

Her recent work includes a Master Plan for the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut, which provides a roadmap for future development and redevelopment in an urban center that is poised for significant economic growth; a Master Plan for Nassau County, New York, which centers on strategies for retrofitting suburban sprawl; and an update of the City of Trenton, New Jersey's zoning code to incorporate principles of smart growth, transit-oriented development (TOD) and sustainable design.

Prior to joining BFJ, Ms. Kaplan-Macey worked as a planner with Vollmer Associates and as a senior planner for the City of Trenton, New Jersey. She holds a Master's in Urban Planning from New York University's Wagner School of Public Service and a BA in Urban Studies from Brown University.
