Dorick Scarpelli
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Administration


Dorick Scarpelli is a Senior Advisor at the NYC Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) at the Office of the Mayor.  He is primarily responsible for CEO’s justice and young adult program portfolios with a focus on the Mayoral Young Men’s Initiative that was launched in August 2011.  Dorick has been working with incarcerated youth and adults for over ten years, most recently as the Program Director for the NYC Justice Corps, a CEO initiative with John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  He helped launch the program in the South Bronx in 2008 and later oversaw its expansion into Harlem.  Prior to his work in New York City, Dorick was an instructor for Five Keys Charter School, an experimental high school for adults incarcerated in the San Francisco County Jail System structured around principals of restorative justice.  In this capacity he taught, wrote curriculum, and edited the jail’s first literary arts magazine for inmates.  He also created and taught educational, theater and debate programs in juvenile detention facilities in Rhode Island.  Dorick earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University, a Masters in Fine Arts degree from Goddard College, and a secondary education teaching credential in English language arts from San Francisco State University.
