Daniel Shacknai
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Administration

Don Shacknai serves as First Deputy Fire Commissioner for the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).  Mr. Shacknai joined the FDNY in early 2002 as the Deputy Commissioner for Intergovernmental Affairs and Management Initiatives, and then served as the Department’s General Counsel before being promoted to First Deputy.

Mr. Shacknai previously served as Deputy General Counsel for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).  Before joining ACS, he worked as a litigator at the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and clerked for the Honorable Myron H. Bright of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Mr. Shacknai worked in New York City as a social worker and advocate immediately after graduating from Bucknell University.  He graduated magna cum laude from Cornell Law School.
