Anthony L. Watson

Anthony L. Watson has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EmblemHealth, Inc., the parent company of HIP Health Plan (HIP) and Group Health, Inc. (GHI) since 2006. Mr. Watson has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York ("HIP") since 1991. He served as an Executive Vice President of HIP from 1985 to 1990.
From 1966 to 1970, he was Supervising Public Health Advisor at the Center for Disease Control of the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare. From 1970 to 1976, Mr. Watson served as Deputy Director of the New York City Comprehensive Health Planning Agency and from 1976 to 1985 served as its Executive Director. From 1972 to 1974, he also was an instructor in health planning at the Herbert J. Lehman College of the City of New York.
Mr. Watson serves as the President and Chairman of the HIP Foundation, which provides overall strategic direction for the HIP system. In 1999, he was named by President Clinton to serve as a member of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare. Mr. Watson served as Chairman of HIP Health Plan of New Jersey from 1995 to 1999; and he also served as the Chairman of the American Association of Health Plans from June 2000 to December 2001. He has been a Director of Sierra Health Services, Inc. since March 1, 2000. He serves as Director of Alliance For Downtown New York, NYC2012, Inc., and America's Health Insurance Plans. He served as a Director of Money Store, Inc. since 1991.
