NYU Wagner

Non-degree and Certificate Programs

Non-degree Programs

Students who wish to pursue course work at NYU, but desire only to take some courses for academic or professional development may apply as non-degree or special students. Special students are permitted to take up to four courses. Non-degree course work may be useful to students wishing to explore NYU Wagner prior to applying to a degree program. It is also useful to those working in the field for whom a few courses may provide beneficial skill sets. Non-degree course work is not intended for those who plan to apply for a degree program, but have not yet submitted application materials. If a special student is accepted as a degree seeking student, those courses may be credited toward the degree requirements. However, taking courses as a special student does not guarantee admission to a degree program.

Certificate Programs

The Advanced Professional Certificate Programs are intended for men and women in professional practice seeking a high quality of instruction that is relevant to their work. The programs provide an academic experience that:

  • is concentrated in time;
  • can be taken on a part-time basis, largely in the evening;
  • focuses on subject areas with direct professional applicability;
  • consists of course work selected to suit the student's individual priorities;
  • entails enrollment in regular courses taught by regular faculty;
  • conforms to normal academic standards and leads to an established certificate.
