Official Transcript Requirement

Admitted students entering NYU Wagner are required to hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or an equivalent degree from a foreign country.
As an admitted student, you are required to submit proof of degree conferral for all undergraduate and graduate degrees earned upon admission to NYU Wagner.  Proof of degree conferral must come in the form of official transcripts from each degree-granting institution.

Official transcripts and proof of degree conferral must be sent to the Office of Admissions and be received in the office by November 14, 2014.  Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by authorized English translations.  Please see the International Credentials section for more details.

Official transcripts are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Transcripts must be original documents bearing the institutional seal and signature of the institution's registrar.
  • Transcripts must be submitted in an original, sealed envelope directly from the degree-granting institution.
  • Transcripts must contain a list of courses taken, grades or marks earned, and name of degree earned.
  • All transcripts must include or be accompanied by proof of degree conferral. The degree conferral must indicate the:

    • type of degree conferred (Bachelor of Arts, Juris Doctor, etc.)

    • date the degree program began and exact date degree was conferred

    • institution and location from which you received the degree

  • If degree conferral information is reflected on your transcript, then you do not need to provide additional degree conferral documentation.  In most cases, your official transcript provides proof of degree conferral, but you are required to confirm this with the institution attended prior to submitting documentation to NYU Wagner.

  • Please note that documents showing completion of courses that do not provide confirmation of degree conferral are not sufficient on a standalone basis.

  • If an institution cannot issue a transcript to you, you must submit a formal letter to NYU Wagner Graduate Admissions Committee in a sealed envelope from the institution stating its policy.

  • Original documents sent to you from your degree-granting institution are acceptable and considered official if they include a stamp, seal, and/or embossed marking, and are delivered to NYU Wagner Office of Admissions in the original sealed envelope bearing the institution’s stamp or seal.

  • If your degree-granting institution offers official electronic transcript submission, please have the document emailed to wagner.admissions.forms@nyu.edu.

International Credentials

  • If the original transcript and proof of degree conferral are not in English, the applicant is required to submit both the official record and an authorized English translation. Both the official transcript and the translation should be submitted in one sealed envelope.

  • If the institution attended does not provide an English translation with the official transcript, a certified English translation through a translating service must be obtained and submitted in a sealed envelope, endorsed across the seal. All translations should be complete and literal renditions of the original record. Records should show the following information:

    • dates of enrollment

    • courses taken

    • units of credit or time allotted to each subject during each term or year

    • marks or ratings in each subject

    • degree earned and date awarded—if this is not listed on transcript, official degree certificate is also required

  • World Education Services International Credential Package –WES iCAP–and WES evaluation reports that include official documents sent directly by the institution are acceptable and do meet NYU Wagner’s proof of degree conferral policy.  Please note that WES evaluations used for the admissions process are acceptable ONLY IF they include all final grades and proof of degree conferral.

  • Records issued only once by institutions should be photocopied and certified as official copies either by school officials or legal authorities such as the embassy or consulate of the institution’s country.  These documents should be sent to us in a sealed (unopened), stamped envelope.  Please do not send the original of an academic record that cannot be replaced.

  • Original hard copy documents can be sent directly from your degree-granting institution to the NYU Wagner Office of Admissions.

  • Original documents sent to you from your degree-granting institution are acceptable and considered official if they include a stamp, seal, and/or embossed marking, and are delivered to NYU Wagner Office of Admissions in the original sealed envelope bearing the institution’s stamp or seal.
