A Message from Dean Sherry Glied
Dear NYU Wagner Alumni,
It is my pleasure to be writing you as the new Dean of NYU Wagner. In the short time I’ve been in this role, I have been inspired by the passionate students, brilliant faculty, talented staff, and accomplished alumni I’ve met. I’ve already seen NYU Wagner’s unique approach in action: we provide our students with an education that leads them to institutionalize – make real and tangible – the ideals that bring them to us. And as alumni, you are proof of this combination of passion and preparation, ideals and education. You are using the experiences you had, the skills, and networks you developed at Wagner to make lasting and significant improvements in the world. I am awed by your work, and look forward to getting to know more of you in the upcoming weeks and months.
One opportunity for us to connect is during NYU Alumni Day this Saturday, October 19. I hope you will join De'Shawn Wright (MPA 2002 and Deputy Secretary for Education for the State of New York) and me for a conversation (think “Inside the Actor’s Studio” format) based on a set of questions submitted in advance by alumni, and then we’ll have time to mingle at a champagne brunch reception immediately after. The event will take place from 9:30am – 12:00pm and costs $20 (pay at the door).
Also, several Wagner faculty will be in Washington, DC, next month to attend the Association of Public Policy and Management (APPAM) annual conference. We are thrilled to be able to host a reception for Wagner alumni at the beautiful new NYU – DC facility. If you live or work in DC, or if you have plans to be there on Wednesday, November 6, we would love for you to join us. RSVP here: NYU Wagner Reception for Alumni and Friends.
Even if you are unable to attend Alumni Day this weekend or our DC reception, we will have multiple opportunities to meet this year. I consider the alumni perspective to be incredibly valuable and will seek your feedback and thoughts in a variety of ways.
Until then, thank you for the warm welcome to the NYU Wagner community.
Help Us Spread the Word About a New NYU Wagner Degree Program!
NYU Wagner and University College London (UCL) have partnered to offer an innovative joint Master of Public Administration, Executive Program in Global Public Policy and Management (Global EMPA). Applications for the inaugural class, which will begin in Fall 2014, are available online now. To help you understand and articulate the new program should you be in conversation with colleagues or friends interested in NYU Wagner, we invite you to watch a brief video to get an introduction to the Global EMPA program.
The one-year joint degree program equips students with leadership, policy analysis, management, and implementation skills to develop sustainable and effective global public policy in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors. It is a full-time program in which students will spend the first term at NYU Wagner in New York City, the second term at UCL's School of Public Policy in London, and the summer term at locations across the globe working on an executive Capstone project.
The application deadline for Fall 2014 is January 6, 2014. Visit the NYU Wagner website for more information and thank you in advance for helping us spread the word!

Aaron Miner (MPA ’08)
Monday mornings can be hard - facing the beginning of another work week. But, for Aaron, they are a little bit easier after donning a hairnet from 6-8am and preparing meals to be delivered to New Yorkers with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses. In 2010, while working for Mayor Bloomberg’s NYC Service, Aaron felt that, in his job to encourage more New Yorkers to volunteer, he should also do so. Aaron heard about God’s Love We Deliver from a colleague and since it combined his interests in food, health and improving local quality of life, he was hooked. After almost 3 years on the Monday morning shift, Aaron also raises money for the organization as part of the GLWD volunteer team for the annual Race to Deliver 4 mile run held in November in Central Park.
God’s Love We Deliver’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition. Founded in 1986, the organization prepares and delivers nutritious, high-quality meals free of charge to people who, because of their illness, are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves.
