NYU Wagner News

Season's Greetings from NYU Wagner.

Wagner has had an outstanding 2012! We hosted a record-breaking number of alumni events around the world; launched a new "alumni profiles" webpage; and created regional groups in New Orleans, East Africa, and China, as well as a healthcare affinity group in NYC. Wagner soared to #6 in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, and alumni are more active and engaged than ever before. We want to take this opportunity to thank you for all the ways you give back to Wagner.

In addition to celebrating our success, we close the year with a bittersweet farewell to Ellen Schall as she steps down from her post as Dean. Ellen's bold, brilliant, and committed leadership over the last ten years helped to propel Wagner to international prominence. Procuring our beautiful home in the Puck Building, recruiting world-class faculty, and spearheading our ascension from #26 to #6 are but a few of her amazing accomplishments.

We thank Ellen for inspiring and empowering our community - students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends - to transform our personal commitment into public service leadership. Stay tuned for more details on our farewell celebration, which will take place this spring.

Ellen will remain on faculty at NYU Wagner, and she will join NYU's central leadership team after she returns from her spring semester sabbatical. Click here to view her departing message to the Wagner community.

We wish you a very happy and safe holiday season!

Congratulations to Irshad Manji

Irshad Manji, author, activist, educator and Director of the Moral Courage Project at NYU Wagner, was presented Nov. 11 with the New York Society for Ethical Culture's highest honor – the Ethical Humanist Award. Established in 1970, the award has been presented just 16 times.

On November 11th, the New York Society for Ethical Culture presented their Ethical Humanist Award to Irshad Manji, the director of the Moral Courage Project at NYU Wagner's Research Center for Leadership in Action.  She was awarded for her Moral Courage Project, which enables people to become active global citizens by speaking up in the face of intimidation.  According to NYESC, "The Ethical Humanist Award is the Society's highest honor.  The Award was established in 1970 to honor an individual who has acted with extraordinary moral courage, without regard for the sanction or acclaim of his or her peers or of society, and whose actions have had broad humanizing implications.  Since 1970, the award has been presented just 16 times."

Join the Wagner community in congratulating Irshad Manji!

Publish your Capstone paper in the Wagner Review

The Wagner Review, NYU Wagner’s student-run academic journal, serves as a literary trophy case for the Wagner community. The Review seeks to showcase and honor students’ outstanding scholarly and academic contributions to the school, and enhance Wagner’s prestige and profile among broader external communities of public service. One of the most effective ways we have of doing this is by showing off the results of the year-long projects completed by our recent alumni. If you are interested in building your resume through publication of your work, honing your writing skills by working with our talented editors, and showcasing the work you’ve done on important public service issues, submit your paper at the link provided below. Submissions are due by midnight on December 16th. If you have any questions, contact us at wagner.review@gmail.com.
