In 2006, Melanie Pessin (MPA '11) traveled to Africa for the first time to volunteer with the Upendo School and Children's Home in Kenya. Three years later, Melanie made another trek to Africa, working for the Global Diabetes Initiative and began work with the Good Hope Initiative in Uganda. Following her return to the States, Melanie continued to raise money and support for both Upendo and the Good Hope Initiative.
Inspired by her time abroad, Melanie and fellow student, Trish Bertuccio (MUP '12), formed East Africa Children's Hope (EACH) in 2011. EACH works to support locally led East African schools and orphanages on the path to self-sustainability. Since EACH's founding, the organization has fundraised to help disadvantaged children in Africa by building classrooms, providing clean water, purchasing school supplies, paying teachers' salaries, funding a new bathroom facility and more. Learn more and support EACH at their Annual Fundraiser on 9/17 in Midtown!
