On November 16, Elliot "Lee" Sander, Director of NYU Wagner Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management was appointed Co-Chairman of the Transportation Committee to serve on Gov.-elect Eliot Spitzer's transition team. The Transportation Committee is one of 13 advisory committees on various topics ranging from agriculture to economic development, from health care to human services. Michaella Holden recently joined the staff at NYU Wagner as the new Alumni Services Administrator. Michaella will coordinate events, opportunities for professional development, and print and online resources for Alumni. Who are our best recruiters? Our very own grads... and starting with Fall 2007, applicants recommended by a Wagner alumna/us will be eligible for the Alumni Scholarship Fund, which provides 50% tuition support for up to five incoming students. To be considered, Masters Degree students must apply by January 15, our scholarship consideration deadline, and be nominated by you. To nominate a student, send an e-mail to wagner.admissions@nyu.edu with the name and address of the applicant, as well as a brief recommendation for the prospective student's application. We know that graduates like you can connect us to future public service leaders who deserve Wagner's support.

Calling all Urban Planning Grads! We hope that you've had a chance to enjoy the current issue of The Wagner Planner. Our following issue will be released near the end of the Fall 2006 semester.
If you are interested in getting involved in the Planner, there are three ways to do so. Faculty, alumni and current students are welcome and encouraged to submit letters to the editors. Send a paragraph with your thoughts on any of the articles in the current issue. Secondly, the Planner is always looking for writers. If you have an idea for an article or would like to be assigned a topic, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Finally, there are many folks in the Wagner planning community who are taking pictures at UPSA and other events. Send the Planner your pictures! All submissions should be forwarded to wagnerplanner@gmail.com.
Phyllis Cerf Wagner, 90, wife of the late New York Mayor for which NYU Wagner is named, died Nov. 24 at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital of complications from a fall in her home on the Upper East Side.
In 1975, she married Robert F. Wagner, who had left City Hall in 1965 after serving three terms. He served as U.S. envoy to the Vatican in the Carter administration, and died in 1991. Always active in civic projects, in 1980, Phyllis Cerf Wagner co-founded the Women's Committee of the Central Park Conservancy, dedicated to upgrading and preserving the Manhattan park. Her favorite accomplishment was her collaboration with Theodor Seuss Geisel on the Dr. Seuss Beginner Books, including "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back," and "Green Eggs and Ham." She took great pride in "those books that helped so many children learn to read," her son, Jonathan Cerf, told the New York Times.

Natasha Lycia Ora Bannan (MPA-PNP '06) recently completed a fellowship with the National Hispana Leadership Institute, the nation's premier leadership program for Latinas nationwide. NHLI's mission is to create ethical world leaders at the highest levels of public service.
Diane Dayson (MS '00), former Wagner Adjunct, recently retired from the US Department of Interior National Park Service where she was Executive Director of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Diane worked for the National Park Service for over 28 years. Currently, Diane volunteers for a nonprofit organization entitled Reach into Cultural Heights.
Peter Lomulen (MPA-PNP '04) left the UN World Food Programme to establish a partnership consultancy firm, Pinnacle Management & Development Consultants (PMD) Ltd. PMD programmes focus on health policy, environment and food security. Peter is also in the process of registering a national NGO: Direct Access for Rural Development to provide welfare services in health care, education and capacity building and governance and policy advocacy in rural areas of Kenya.
Pria Rai (MPA-PNP '02), after four years at the Coalition for the Homeless, has joined the Sanctuary for Families as their Director of Human Resources. Congratulations, Pria.
David Rubin (MPA-Health '79), after working for the NYS Dept. of Health for many years, recently joined his wife Alice in taking over the management of TEIGIT. TEIGIT is a healthcare brokerage serving the arts and entertainment community in select states with the goal to provide affordable health insurance to self-employed artists, writers, musicians, etc. who are members of 30 affiliated guilds/associations, while providing the benefits of group policies.
