We all know that Wagner alumni run New York City. Well, it’s time to cut the red tape and network with the Big Apple’s true power brokers. Join us on Thursday, July 19 at a happy hour for alumni working in New York City government. The event will take place from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Pound and Pence, located at 55 Liberty Street, south of City Hall. Bring $10 and your government business card for all-you-can-drink wine and beer. In anticipation of Mayor Bloomberg's Earth Day announcement of his PlaNYC proposal, NYU Wagner Rudin Center's Director, Dr. Allison C. de Cerreño discussed congestion pricing, one of the more controversial elements of the proposal, in a radio interview for American Public Media's program, Marketplace. On June 14 – Flag Day – Wagner alumni joined Dean Schall and other Wagner faculty for a party at B-Bar and Grill. A wide range of alums attended, from recent graduates to retirees, urban planners and city officials to leaders in the health and nonprofit fields – all present because of their passion for public service and for Wagner. Each guest made a contribution to the Wagner Annual Fund to attend the event and enjoyed reconnecting with fellow alums and hearing an update on Wagner from the Dean.

Professor Paul Light will give a talk moderated by Rogan Kersh at the Nonprofit Leader Summit hosted by Wachovia Nonprofit and Philanthropic Services in New York City in September. The talk, on nonprofit reform and the changing dynamics between the federal government and the nonprofit world, will be at 10:30 am on Friday, September 7th. Registration for the summit is full.
While we’ve happily reached our Annual Fund goal of $285K early this year, we’re still reaching for the stars – and for more alumni participation. Now, our goal is to achieve 1,000 gifts before August 31, 2007. We’ve already received over 900 gifts, with 1,000 gifts taking our alumni participation rate to 13%—one of the highest rates at NYU and among our peer schools of public affairs (e.g. Kennedy at Harvard, Woodrow Wilson at Princeton, SIPA at Columbia, etc.) Make an online contribution TODAY! Mihran Sahakyan (MPA-PNP ‘05) is currently the Election Program Coordinator at the USAID Civic Advocacy Support Program implemented by Counterpart International, which supports democratic development of Armenia.
Matthew Summy (MPA-Health ‘97)was named Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy in the Office of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich in January. In this role he directs the development and implementation of major policy and legislative initiatives on behalf of the Governor. Their current focus is adoption of a universal healthcare package that would make healthcare available to everyone in Illinois. Congratulations, Matthew.
Robin White (MPA-PNP ‘01) is now the Federal Legislative Coordinator at the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. Congratulations, Robin.
