Prof. Beth Weitzman (MPA '80, PhD '87) Appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at NYU Steinhardt
Wagner's beloved Prof. Weitzman, longstanding health professor and head of the PhD program, transferred to Steinhardt on August 1st, assuming the role of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. As Associate Dean, Weitzman will help lead the School on all academic matters. Her responsibilities will include working closely with faculty, administrators, and students to further enhance the School's academic goals in all of its undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. Get Ready for NYU Alumni Day and Dean Schall's Fall Harvest Lunch for Wagner Families
NYU Alumni Day will be held on Oct. 3, 2009. The day promises to be full of engaging events including panels entitled "Can We Afford to Go Green? The Politics of Climate Change" and "Is Access to Healthcare a Right or Privilege?" Dean Schall will also host her annual lunch for alumni and their families. More information will be available soon at the NYU Alumni Day website.
Prof. Sewin Chan Named to U.S. Dept. of Labor's Advisory Panel on Pensions
Sewin Chan, Associate Professor of Public Policy at NYU Wagner, has been sworn in as a member of the U.S. Department of Labor's Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Plans. The panel was established under the ERISA Act, and Professor Chan will be one of 15 members on a three-year term. Read more.

Alumni In Action - Public Service Spotlight
Earlier in his career Jacob Victory (MPA '98) told Idealist.org in an interview, "There is a lack of planning in healthcare to address the awesome needs of the population. The industry is more reactive than proactive." As a strong strategic planner, Victory has spent most of his professional life working to fill that gap at the organizations where he has worked. Did You Know...?
Jordan Anderson and Vaidila Kungys (MUP '05) have created a new website for New York City bicyclists, ridethecity.com. The site helps riders find the safest bike routes in cities such as New York, Chicago, and Austin, TX.
Zoe Colon (MPA '05) is the new executive director of the Hispanic Resource Center in Mamaroneck, NY. Congratulations, Zoe.
John Donnellan (MPA '84) has been named to the newly established Robert Derzon Chair in Health and Public Service at Wagner. Welcome back, John, and congratulations.
The Capstone Project by Emily Barnes, Aminata Diop, Sarah Felsenthal, Surovi Mukerjee, and Laura Prussin (MPA '09) for the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence is featured on OPDV's website. Their project focused on media coverage of domestic violence.
Honey Laptook (MPA '05) received her MSW from the Columbia School of Social Work this past May and has begun a new job as the Social Worker for the Urban Justice Center's Mental Health Project. Congratulations, Honey.
Dominic Massaro (MPA '65) has been nominated by Governor Paterson to the New York State Supreme Court in the First Judicial District. Congratulations, Dominic.
Matthew Summy (MPA '97) has been named President and CEO of the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition. Congratulations, Matthew.
Jason Yoon (MPA '06) appeared in a news story on NBC 10 in Rhode Island that covered local arts grants coming out of the ARRA stimulus funds. Yoon is the Executive Director of New Urban Arts in Providence.
Lawrence Zippin (MPA '67) has been named CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network in Verona, VA. Congratulations, Lawrence.
