The 2007 WAA Board Elections for the 2007-2008 term are well underway. Candidates have been nominated, their candidate statements have been posted online and voting is currently open. On Tuesday, June 12, senior fellow at Wagner and a veteran political consultant, Bob Shrum will discuss his eagerly anticipated book, "No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner," which Publishers Weekly described as a "frequently gripping memoir." This history of Robert Shrum�s professional experiences in American politics covers three decades, from his time as a speechwriter for John Lindsay to his work as a campaign strategist for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election. The discussion will begin at 6:00 pm and will be followed by a reception and book signing. RSVP online.
More than 250 graduate candidates and their families and friends filled the plush red seats in the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem on May 11 for the 2007 NYU Wagner Convocation. Among the speakers were NYU President John Sexton; Doug Palmer, the mayor of Trenton, N.J. and president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors; and the Hon. David Dinkins, former mayor of New York City. In honor of the ceremony's unique location, the graduates processed out of the theater following a marching, eight-piece brass band, that played "Take the A Train" and led them to a reception at the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building Plaza.
"What do New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo have in common? A lot, it turns out." So begins the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's new profile of NYU Wagner Prof. Victor Rodwin's research on world cities, titled "How Are World Cities Responding to the Challenges of Population Aging?" Prof. Rodwin is their featured researcher in their "Research in Profile" series for May, 2007. Meanwhile, Prof. Rodwin was the subject of a full-page interview in Le Monde on May 19 in connection with Michael Moore's much-anticipated film on health care. Prof. Rodwin is the director of the World Cities Project (WCP) a joint venture of the International Longevity Center (ILC-USA), Columbia University's Mailman School, and New York University's Wagner School.

James Askin (MPA '00) is currently employed as a US Customs and Border Protection Officer based in NY/NJ inspecting container ships and cargo for contraband and terrorism threats.
Dan Blum (MS '04) is Senior Vice President at White Plains Hospital where he oversees strategic planning and other related functions.
Adolfo Firpo-Betancourt (MPA-Health '01) is Director of Community Health and Outreach Research Projects at the USU Center for Health Disparities Research and Education, an NIH funded P20 Project awarded to the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences.
Donne Kampel (MPA '82) earned a doctorate in higher education administration after leaving Wagner and is currently Associate Dean of Faculties at Touro College in New York City.
Sunny Kim (MPA '04) joined NYU School of Law as Senior Development Officer in February. Welcome back to NYU, Sunny!
Jenny Keane (MPA-PNP '07) has been promoted to Assistant Director, Prospect Research in NYU's Office of University Development and Alumni Relations. Congratulations, Jenny!
Jennifer Lindbom (MUP '01) accepted a position as Senior Urban Planner with the Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) and will be relocating to the United Arab Emirates in early June. In Abu Dhabi, she will be working on the Al Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone. It is a 450 square kilometer project that will include a port, industrial zone, and a brand new city, which Jennifer will be helping to plan and develop. Congratulations, Jennifer!
Carlos Manzano (MPA-PNP '03) recently became the Executive Director for the Latin Media and Entertainment Commission in the City of New York. Congratulations, Carlos!
Liz Oakley (MPA '06) has been named interim director of the Montague Street Business Improvement District. Congratulations, Liz!
Julie Overeynder (MPA '94) is working for the City of New York, DOITT (Department of Information, Technology and Telecommunications) on the NYCAPS Project-the City's PeopleSoft implementation to create a state-of-the-art HR system. She is currently the Change Management Lead, responsible for all aspects of training, organization change and communication.
Jean Ries (MPA-PNP '06) accepted a full-time position as Director of Resource Development at Kids Included Together (KIT). KIT is a San Diego nonprofit organization that specializes in providing best practices training for community-based youth organizations committed to including children with disabilities into their existing recreational, social and child care programs. Congratulations, Jean!
