S J Avery was the Executive Director of Bronx AIDS Services, Inc.(BAS) for over 14 years, retiring in 2007. Ms Avery oversaw the expansion of BAS  from a small program with 30 staff to its current status as the largest non-hospital based Bronx program providing services for people with HIV/AIDS, with four Bronx locations, a staff of over 100, and a budget of over $7 million. Prior to BAS, she worked in senior administrative levels at NYC Health and Hospital facilities in Queens and in the Bronx. Her primary area of expertise is planning and program development and she  currently provides consultant assistance in organizational transition planning, as well as coaching for senior executives.

Ms. Avery received her B.A. from Manhattanville College and her M.S. from the Institute of Health Sciences at Hunter College, City University of New York. She is currently teaching the capstone in Health Policy and Management.
