Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Administration

Diana Beck is the Assistant Director of Health and Doctoral Programs and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Administration at NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

Previously, Beck was an Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Health and Public Service Research where she worked on several projects relating to performance of the health care delivery system, barriers to access to care, and longitudinal analyses of hospital admissions and emergency department utilization.

Fall 2014 CORE-GP.1011.001 Statistical Methods for Public, Nonprofit, and Health Management

This course introduces students to basic statistical methods and their application to management, policy,
and financial decision-making. The course covers the essential elements of descriptive statistics,
univariate and bivariate statistical inference, and introduces multivariate analysis. In addition to
covering statistical theory the course emphasizes applied statistics and data analysis, using the software package, SPSS.

The course has several "audiences" and goals. For all Wagner students, the course develops basic skills
and encourages a critical approach to reviewing statistical findings and using statistical reasoning in
decision making. For those planning to continue studying statistics (often those in policy and finance
concentrations) this course additionally provides the foundation for that further work.

Summer 2010 PADM-GP.2250.001 Hunger and Food Security in a Global Perspective (Accra, Ghana)

This course explores the political and economic policy issues surrounding hunger and food security, drawing on many case examples and using Ghana as a case study. The course will provide an overview of some of the core dimensions of global hunger and food security policy issues, including debates over a new green revolution, food aid, fair trade, the impact of expanded biofuels production and the impact of the inter-related financial, food, and fuel crises. The class will incorporate visits to sites in Ghana and discussions with NGOs and other organizations involved in various efforts to enhance food security.
This course requires pre-departure lectures in New York in late May and early June. Check Albert for dates and times.
