Sally Blount-Lyon was named the 10th Dean of the Undergraduate College and Vice Dean of the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University in 2004. She is the Abraham L. Gitlow Professor of Management and Organizations and holds an affiliated appointment at NYU's Wagner School of Public Service. In October 2007, she was appointed by NYU's Provost as Special Advisor for Global Academic Integration.
Stern's Undergraduate College, one of the premier undergraduate business programs in the country, is home to 2300 high-performing students with average SAT's of 1430 (out of 1600). As Dean, Blount-Lyon sets the College's strategic direction, oversees $70 million in annual operating revenue and is responsible for $10 million in annual fundraising. In partnership with the Dean of the Stern School, Blount-Lyon is leading a 5-year, 80,000 square foot, $40 million renovation of Stern's undergraduate facilities.
Blount-Lyon has also initiated several curricular innovations, including a required four-course Social Impact Core and two new global degree options -- the World Studies Track, launched in Spring 2008, and the B.S. in Business and Political Economy, to be launched in Fall 2009. Students in these unique degree tracks will spend semesters studying abroad in London, Asia and Latin America as an integral part of their undergraduate education.
In her global role, Blount-Lyon is working with the heads of NYU's global and administrative units to create the infrastructure needed to realize NYU's vision of creating a large-scale, globally networked research university.
Blount-Lyon joined the Stern Management Department in 2001 after serving on the faculty of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business for nearly a decade and teaches courses in management, negotiations and ethics. She is the author of more than 30 journal articles in social psychology on topics of negotiations, decision making and time and is the recipient of multiple academic rewards, including two National Science Foundation grants. In addition, she has served on many advisory boards, including at the National Science Foundation, Princeton University, the Academy of Management and the Economic Science Association.
Blount-Lyon travels internationally lecturing to both academic and business audiences. Past corporate clients have included L'Oreal, Fortis Bank, Goldman Sachs, Pfizer, Volvo and Sysco. Earlier in her career, she worked as a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group.
Blount-Lyon holds a joint B.S. degree from Princeton University (1983) in Engineering Systems and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. She received M.S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg School of Management.
