Marco Cangiano is an Italian graduate from the University La Sapienza in Rome and
the University of York in the United Kingdom, with twenty five years of professional
experience as a public finance economist. He has been on staff at the International
Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington since 1991, where he has worked in the Fiscal
Affairs and Asian and Pacific Departments, and the Office of Budget and Planning.
He is currently assistant director and head of the public financial management division
of the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department in charge of Europe, Anglophone Africa, Central
Asia, and the Middle East. He has coordinated training activities and lectured on
a range of fiscal matters in Washington and abroad, including at the OECD Senior
Budget Officers meetings and seminars. He has published on pension reform,
budgeting, tax policy, and fiscal transparency. Since 2008, he has been a member
of the steering committee of Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA).
