GOVERNMENT

Attention: Government Employers

NYU Wagner has established a reputation for attracting and educating outstanding individuals who are committed to public service. Whether seasoned professionals, recent college graduates, or mid-career managers, students arrive at the Wagner School with a desire to serve the public, and they leave with the cutting edge skills needed to succeed in government jobs.

Wagner's MPA program in public administration is rated ninth in the nation in U.S. News and World Report's rankings of public affairs programs with a public management/administration specialty. Committed to public service, Wagner students are equipped to work as public administrators, policy analysts, and finance experts in diverse public service settings in local, state, and federal government agencies.

The success of our Master of Public Administration program is based on rigorous academics that link theory to practice with an overall emphasis on the development of critical thinking and communication skills. In addition to courses in the management of public service organizations, financial management, policy formation and analysis, statistical data analysis, and public economics, students specialize and take further coursework in a management, policy, or finance track. Wagner students have also successfully completed a one-year "Capstone" project where they work as a member of a consulting team to solve a problem for a client in a government agency.

As a result, these leaders are trained to be effective administrators with the ability to work with colleagues in the complex organizational settings found in government agencies.

Increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of government agencies, recent Wagner graduates can be found playing the following significant roles:
