NYU Home and E-Mail

*NOTE to New Students:
You will not be able to follow the steps below until NYU has received and processed your tuition deposit.

1. Find your Net ID

Your Net ID is a unique alphanumeric that NYU assigns to you (e.g., xyz111). When followed by "@nyu.edu," your Net ID serves as your NYU e-mail address (as in "xyz111@nyu.edu").

Go to http://start.nyu.edu and follow the prompts to find your Net ID and create a password.

2. Log in to NYU Home

Go to NYU Home and log in using your Net ID and password that you created. NYU Home is a customizable Web interface that provides access to many resources at NYU (see Get E-Connected). For more information about NYU Home, see the Help links on the left side of the NYU Home screen.

3. Activate and Customize Your E-Mail

Once you have activated your Net ID, you must visit NYU Home to activate your e-mail account. Once you are logged in to NYU Home, click on the "E-mail" link in the top left corner of the screen to bring up the Messenger Express web-based e-mail application.

You must use NYU Home and Messenger Express when you check your e-mail for the first time. Afterwards, you may choose to check your NYU e-mail using another application, such as Outlook. See NYU Home E-mail Help for complete instructions.

If you would like to forward your NYU e-mail to another address, such as your home or work-email address, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to NYU Home and open your e-mail using Messenger Express.
  2. Click on the "Options" tab in Messenger Express and select "Settings" from the left-hand menu bar.
  3. In the Mail Forwarding window, enter the email address (or addresses) where you wish to forward your mail. You can enter as many email addresses as you want, but they must each be entered on separate line.
  4. Click Save Changes to begin forwarding your email.
  5. Test this immediately by sending mail to yourself at your NYU Home account.
