Dr. Elena Elkin is an Assistant Attending Outcomes Research Scientist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She investigates clinical and sociodemographic determinants of breast cancer screening, treatment and outcomes using methods of population-based observational data analysis and decision analysis. Her current research addresses geographic disparities in access to and utilization of screening mammography. She is also interested in the economic implications of targeted cancer therapies, the effects of economic incentives and barriers to care on variations in cancer treatment, methods of clinical decision analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis, and the clinical decision-making process from both patient and provider perspectives. Dr. Elkin’s research is supported by grants from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. She received a PhD in Health Policy from Harvard University and an MPA in Health Policy from NYU (Wagner).
As an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Wagner, Dr. Elkin has taught Health Economics and Payment Systems (P11.1832) and will be teaching Estimating Impacts in Policy Research (P11.2875) in Spring 2008.
