Richard Ravitch, Former Lieutenant Governor of New York, will share experiences and insights detailed in his recent book So Much to Do: A Full Life of Business, Politics, and Confronting Fiscal Crises. At this special NYU Wagner/Accenture Breakfast Briefing, Ravitch, who was one of the key players who saved New York City from bankruptcy in the 1970s, will offer hard-won insight and advice on the decisions that government, labor, and business leaders must make to avoid a similar fate. The conversation will be facilitated by Elliot Sander, President and CEO of the HAKS Group and former CEO of the MTA.

Richard Ravitch has been chairman of the New York State Urban Development Corporation, chairman of HRH Construction Corporation, chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, chairman of the Bowery Savings Bank, lieutenant governor of the state of New York, and co-chair, with Paul Volcker, of the task force on the state budget crisis. His book, So Much to Do: A Full Life of Business, Politics, and Confronting Fiscal Crises, is out now. He lives in New York City.

Join NYU Wagner for the 2014 Henry Hart Rice Urban Policy Forum. Award-winning author Robert Sampson will discuss the impact of urban inequality and social change on America's cities. Based on findings from his recent book, Great American City: Chicago and the Enduring Neighborhood Effect, Sampson will discuss the broken windows theory, the crime drop, gentrification, the role of immigration in city change, and the increasing use of “big data” in urban policy.

Robert J. Sampson is Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard, Director of the Boston Area Research Initiative at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and a Fellow at the Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law and Justice at NYU. He received the Stockholm Prize in Criminology in 2011, and his book Great American City will receive the 2014 Distinguished Scholarly Book Award from the American Sociological Association.

Wagner Food Policy Alliance (WFPA) and Student Network Exploring Art & Culture (SNEAC) are excited to present a short documentary screening of "Fair Tomatoes: A Story About Justice, Dignity and Sustainability" followed by a Q&A with the film's directors. This documentary is a 25-minute film focusing on the plight of farmworkers in Immokalee, Florida--"The Tomato Capital of America"--and their organized efforts to correct abuses and wage issues that persist today. In the last decade, local workers have organized the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a group hoping to raise awareness about corporate social responsibility, community organizing, and sustainable food, while also ending modern-day slavery and other labor abuses.

Join us for an exciting opportunity to learn more about the Affordable Care Act (ACA), from an insider's perspective. Dean Sherry Glied, a healthcare policy reform expert, served as an Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2010-2012, where she was intimately involved in the implementation of the ACA. Dean Glied will share her insider's knowledge of the legislation, and will answer questions after her presentation.
