Application Process
Applications are no long available for the 2010 Fellowship class. Applicants who submitted their materials by September 16, 2009 at 5pm EST can expect to receive notification of our decision by the beginning of October.
Applications for next year's Fellowship will be available in Summer 2010. Please check back then.
Important note about recommendations: Your recommendation must be completed by your direct supervisor at your current public service position. Your supervisor cannot submit his/her recommendation until you have completed your application via the Web site. Your supervisor will then be sent a link to use to complete the recommendation. The recommendation can only be accepted using this link.
A completed application will consist of:
* Application form
* Resume
* Personal statement
* Letter of recommendation from direct supervisor at current place of employment
Application Timeline
All applications and recommendations must be submitted no later than Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by 5:00 pm.
We will notify all applicants of our decision at the beginning of October 2009.
The mandatory day-long orientation will be held Sunday, November 8, 2009. All applicants must hold this date on their calendars.
Eligibility Requirements
All FELPS applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Applicants must be recent graduates from an undergraduate institution. We expect a range of applicants, and there is no specific age limit, but most will have graduated from their undergraduate institutions (regardless of graduate work) in approximately the last 3 to 5 years.
- Most applicants will not have attended graduate school prior to the fellowship, but are still deciding between professional programs. Note that most fellows attend graduate school within a few years of completing their fellowships.
- Applicants must be employed full-time in a public service position in the New York City Area, and must stay in a public service position throughout the fellowship.
- Applicants must not be currently participating in another significant fellowship program such as the NYC Urban Fellows or the Coro Fellowship.
- Applicants must commit to attending the day-long orientation on November 8, 2009 as well as for twice-monthly evening sessions, to be held mostly on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at NYU and start around 5:30pm. Applicants must also meet all fellowship deadlines and complete all assignments. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program.

Applications will only be accepted online. Do to the high volume of applicants, please do not contact the office regarding the completeness of your application. You will receive an email confirmation when your application form is submitted and when your recommendation is submitted.
Selection Process
Selection as a FELPS Fellow will be based on the following criteria:
- A demonstrated commitment to public service through relevant work and volunteer experience.
- Experience of, and/or potential for, advanced leadership skills and qualities.
