Barbara Kellerman, the founding executive director of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and author of many books on leadership and followership, as well as the provocative new book, The End of Leadership, will join us as an RCLA Senior Visiting Scholar in September. Dr. Kellerman was ranked by Forbes.com in the “Top 50 Business Thinkers” in 2009 and in the top 15 of 100 “Best Minds on Leadership” by Leadership Excellence in 2008-09.

BLOOMBERG INNOVATION DELIVERY FELLOWS TO MEET WITH MEMPHIS MAYOR
This May, the Bloomberg Innovation Delivery Fellows will focus on best practices in local government innovation as they meet with Memphis Mayor A. C. Wharton, Jr. and tour the Memphis Police Department's Real Time Crime Center, a national model for using technology and data to track and fight crime. At the convening, Fellows will also reflect on their own leadership strengths and engage in peer consultations about their research projects with Innovation Delivery Teams in five cities.

RCLA HOSTS PREEMINENT THINKERS APPLYING DESIGN PRINCIPLES TO LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION
How can public service challenges be tackled through the creative process and discipline of design? Christian Bason, Director of Innovation at MindLab, a Danish cross-ministerial innovation unit; Ezio Manzini, Design Professor at Politecnico Di Milano, and International Coordinator of the DESIS (Design for Social Innovation towards Sustainability) Network; and Eduardo Staszowski, Assistant Professor of Design Strategies at Parsons, the New School for Design have been utilizing design for leadership and innovation for years. The group explored collaborative synergies at a visit to RCLA based on the Center's role as a "lab" where public service leaders co-create solutions to pressing challenges.
GLOBAL LEADERS TO DISCUSS FUTURE OF THE CITY AT INAUGURAL NEW CITIES SUMMIT
The New Cities Summit, to be held from May 14-16 in Paris, will unite global thought leaders, mayors and city managers, leading CEOs and representatives of civil society to discuss one of the most important leadership topics of our time: the future of cities in the 21st century. The landmark event is being hosted by the New Cities Foundation, a premier world forum in which NYU Wagner is a partner, along with GE, Cisco, the Ford Foundation and other top institutions, and for which NYU Wagner’s Neil Kleiman is serving as an advisor.

In a new video on cross-sector partnerships, a panel of experts hosted by RCLA and the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute provides a window into how collaborations by government, the private sector and civil society in the public interest demonstrate both promise and challenges as policy interventions in the changing Middle East.
As the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation’s partner on cross-portfolio leadership strategies, RCLA facilitated the Foundation’s annual grantee retreat from May 2-4 on “Navigating in an Environment of Transformative Change,” which explored innovation as a tool for ensuring continued relevance in evidence-based programs and sustainability.
As a Visiting Scholar at Lund University, one of the top 100 universities worldwide, RCLA Faculty Director Sonia Ospina presented her work on social change leadership practices at a leadership conference organized by the Business School's management group, May 4.
Professor Ospina presented her research on public management evaluation systems in Latin America at ESADE, a leading Spanish School of Business, to students of the Executive Management Program of Madrid and to the Public Management Research Group in Barcelona, April 24-27.
RCLA Senior Associate Waad El Hadidy presented an interim report to Women’s World Banking and key stakeholders on April 23 as part of a three-year evaluation of WWB’s Center for Microfinance Leadership.
The final Wagner Leadership Academy for the academic year was a lively, fast-paced exchange of ideas as part of student group succession planning in which outgoing student representatives answered incoming leaders’ questions and shared strategies for success, April 20.
As part of RCLA’s work with social change organizations, the Center co-sponsored a forum on March 30 with Adelante Alliance, a nonprofit cultural and advocacy organization serving immigrants in Brooklyn and the NYC area. The forum brought together local social change nonprofits for "A Reflection on the History and Lives of Immigrant Women in the United States." The next event - in May - will focus on the rich narratives of immigrant women who have become community leaders.
