Leadership Program in NY Prepare to Answer National Calls to Public Service
The US Congress just passed legislation to triple the AmeriCorps program - one step in nascent legislative efforts at the local and federal levels to get more Americans involved in public service. In response to these emerging calls, executives from leadership development programs in New York City gathered at a Learning Circle sponsored by RCLA and the Leadership Learning Community to begin mapping leadership opportunities and to explore ways leadership programs can ignite and sustain a lifelong passion for service.

RCLA Marks Anniversary of Rwandan Genocide with Unique Workshop on Helping Survivors Rebuild Their Lives
Fifteen years ago this April, the world witnessed one of the most devastating atrocities in history - a campaign of violence so ruthless that more than 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the space of three months. Today, the situation for survivors - particularly young people and orphans - remains bleak. At a unique event, Mary K. Blewitt, an RCLA visiting fellow and founder of the UK-based Survivors Fund, talks with trauma experts about new ways to help survivors heal and begin to rebuild their lives.
The event is part the RCLA Leadership Design Studio, which brings together dynamic and accomplished advisors from different disciplines to help practitioners find solutions to their tough leadership challenges.

Stoneleigh Center Partners with RCLA on Fellowships
The Stoneleigh Center, a foundation dedicated to improving the well-being of children and youth, runs two highly successful fellowship programs: one for mid-career professionals and one for recent college graduates. Both fellowships are dedicated to improving practices and policies in the US child welfare, education and juvenile justice systems.
Stoneleigh is partnering with RCLA to continue deepening the connection between fellows' innovative research and policy change and to further develop opportunities for peer-learning and collaboration among fellows. This partnership builds on RCLA's extensive expertise designing and delivering high-impact fellowship programs.

Tapping Leaders Across Generations for Effective Social Change
At the first Social Change Leadership Network Learning Session of 2009, participants will explore multi-generational leadership in social service, advocacy, community organizing and related fields and will identify possible next steps they can take to address their organization's multi-generational leadership needs.

RCLA Releases Findings on Effective Cross-Sector Collaborations in Latin America
Based on a research project with the AVINA Foundation and independent scholars in Colombia and Brazil, RCLA is releasing practical recommendations on building sustainable cross-sector collaborations in Latin America. Critical components of developing and sustaining these collaborations include a commitment to a common cause and mobilization to advance it in the public agenda; the pivotal role of the convening leader; recognition and respect of differences; and the design and implementation of governance structures.
