About the Program
The NGL Experience: 1997-2003
Between 1997 and 2003, five cohorts, each of 24 NGL Fellows, participated in the two-year NGL program. This page provides a very brief overview of the experiences that these Fellows had in the program.
The First Year Curriculum
In the first, participants in an intensive analytical and experiential curriculum focused upon the democratic principles of equity, inclusion and justice. Participants examined case studies, experiences and practices and developed deeper problem-solving skills. Three of the sessions were held in the United States and looked at issues relating to American democracy and disparities. The remaining session was held overseas to examine and consider solutions to global economic, social and technological disparities.
The Second Year Curriculum
During the second year, participants applied the problem-solving skills gained during the previous year to develop change strategies and to strengthen and broaden their constituencies. Fellows competed for access to a Solutions Fund which provided grants for initiatives that were collaborative and innovative in nature and sought to transform institutions across sectors – non-profit, government and business.
