Administration for Children Services
Leadership Academy of Child Safety
RCLA was commissioned to provide the Administration for Children's Services with the design and framework for a Leadership Academy to enhance the leadership and management skills of approximately 250 Child Protective Managers (CPMs) within the Division for Child Protection. The mission of the Leadership Academy was to develop the individual and collective capacity of managers through training and professional development to build strong child protective teams, manage toward outcomes, and better protect the children of New York City.
The Academy was designed to provide participants with a hands-on leadership experience that allows them to develop their leadership and management capacity through a tailored, interactive experience. RCLA developed a training curriculum that includes a day-by-day detailed description of the sessions, activities, readings and experiences in which CPMs participate. The curriculum reflects RCLA's knowledge of ACS, particularly of the Division for Child Protection, and the management and leadership challenges within the field offices. It also reflects RCLA's deep understanding of best practices in four intersecting fields: child welfare, leadership, organizational change and adult learning.
The design and implementation of the Academy was driven by a team of independent management consultants, including two NYU Wagner alumni, in collaboration with RCLA staff and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. RCLA Fellow Heather Weston led the project on behalf of RCLA.
