The white house project

21st century women's leadership inquiry

RCLA and the White House Project are collaborating to foster conversations about women's leadership.

The 21st Century Women's Leadership Inquiry led by NYU Wagner Dean Ellen Schall and partners at the White House Project involved a Cooperative Inquiry with women in executive positions across the public, nonprofit and private sectors. The long-term goal was to contribute to shifting the discourse about leadership from a heroic, masculine, and often white view, to a more collective, relational and inclusive view.

The final report provides insights from top women executives on the many considerations for women navigating the "labyrinth of leadership."

Capturing this approach to leadership, which may be enacted by both men and women, but is often more evident in women, builds knowledge about how leadership happens today. It also produces a deeper understanding of the contributions of women's leadership practices.
