Building on its #1 ranked program in health policy and management, NYU Wagner has partnered with New York-Presbyterian Hospital to offer a Master of Science in Management with a concentration for nurse leaders.The role of the nurse leader is one of the most critical in contemporary healthcare organizations and requires exceptional leadership and management skills. This unique collaboration between NYU Wagner and New York-Presbyterian fills the need for a graduate program designed specifically for nursing professionals to help them develop these skills.

The Master of Science in Management

Nurse leaders concentration is designed for bachelor's degree prepared registered nurses in leadership and management roles looking for advancement and future development or those with several years' work experience who currently hold some management duties or leadership responsibility who wish to progress to a formal management role.

The program may be completed part-time over two academic years and will provide the highest level of service possible to students as they continue their professional work concurrent with their studies. Nurses will be able to immediately apply what they are learning in order to enhance their performance in their current roles as they plan for career advancement.

Curriculum

The curriculum combines the latest in healthcare management research with original case studies and opportunities for real world application to prepare nursing professionals to provide effective leadership in today's complex healthcare organizations.

Students complete 36 credits, consisting of two core courses, two concentration courses, four electives, and a capstone end event.

I. Core Courses (2 courses, 8 credits)

Special sections of the core courses are specifically tailored to the needs and interests of nursing leaders and are taught to students in the program on a cohort basis.

II. Concentration Courses (2 courses, 8 credits)

Special sections of the two concentration courses will also be taught to students in this concentration on a cohort basis.

III. Sample Elective Courses (4 courses 16 credits)

Students will work with a faculty advisor to select 16 credits of elective coursework from NYU Wagner's offerings as well as the other Schools at New York University including the College of Nursing. Up to 8 credits may be taken outside of the Wagner School.

IV. End Event

Working in teams and under the supervision of a NYU Wagner faculty member, students use an evidence-based approach to design and recommend management interventions to respond to organization challenges and opportunities for a client organization in the health care field. The Capstone is learning in action and provides both a critical learning experience and the opportunity to perform a public service.

Co-curricular Activities:

The MS in Management is designed to be a cohort based program. To facilitate the development of a strong cohort and provide learning opportunities not available in the traditional classroom, the following activities will be offered:
