Readers of Nonprofit Quarterly Select Wagner Professor's Article as Classic
NYU Wagner's Professor Paul Light's article, "The Content of Their Character," tops a poll conducted by The Nonprofit Quarterly to identify classic articles published by the magazine. This "state of the nonprofit workforce" article examines the challenges faced by nonprofits and their employees: while most nonprofit sector employees work longer hours for less pay than their private sector counterparts, many nonprofit organizations are weak and lack the institutional structures to help their employees succeed.

The Winter 2006 edition of the magazine also featured Professor Light's recent article, "The Spiral of Sustainable Excellence," adapted from his book entitled Sustaining Nonprofit Performance: The Case for Capacity Building and the Evidence to Support It, published by the Brookings Institution Press in 2004.

Dr. Paul C. Light is NYU Wagner's Paulette Goddard Professor of Public Service and founding principal investigator of the Organizational Performance Initiative. His writing has appeared in a variety of publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Public Administration Review.
