The NYU Wagner Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management in concert with The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council, MasterCard Worldwide, and Smart Card Alliance will hold a panel discussion on new approaches to transit fare collection on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 from 8:00 am - 10:00 am. The panel discussion, titled "Contactless Smart Cards for Transit Fare Payment: A Paradigm Shift" will be held in the 2nd floor conference room of NYU Wagner, The Puck Building, 295 Lafayette Street, New York City, NY.
MTA New York City Transit is exploring an option that permits payment of fare at the point of entry using a standard, bank-issued contactless smart card device. This is a paradigm shift from traditional approaches to fare collection in which transit agencies issue fare media and tickets that are integral to a stand-alone, custom-designed fare collection system. Panelists will review this paradigm shift and explore some of its implications.
Featured panelists include: Randy Vanderhoof, Smart Card Alliance; Gregory Garback, Smart Card Alliance; Burt Willhelm, Mastercard; Steve Frazzini, MTA NYC Transit; and Paul Korczak, MTA NYC Transit.
