Social Change Leadership Network Announces Advisory Circle of National Leaders
The Research Center for Leadership in Action's Social Change Leadership Network (SLCN) is pleased to announce the formation of a Leadership Advisory Circle.
The Circle brings together nationally recognized nonprofit leaders to provide guidance and feedback as SCLN moves into its third year of offering leadership development and capacity-building for social change advocates and organizations.
"The Advisory Circle will ensure that the Network's goals and programming are directly connected to and informed by efforts on the ground, the important work that Circle members are advancing, and the needs and challenges of the social change community," explained Amparo Hofmann-Pinilla, program director. "We are thrilled to have such a distinguished group of leaders participate and are grateful for the many contributions they are already making to the Network's success."
By offering insights into the needs their organizations face regarding training, leadership development, networking and building capacity, the Leadership Advisory Circle assists the Network in keeping its "ear to the ground" and helps shape innovative and timely programming.

At the first meeting of the Advisory Circle, held in October, members and Social Change Leadership Network staff discussed an essential component of the Network: learning sessions.
For the past three years, RCLA has held free, day-long leadership development learning sessions on topics such as social media, training for trainers, community organizing and connecting across differences. These have been well received by the social change community, and the Advisory Circle discussed the continued critical need among social change organizations for leadership development opportunities that "make sense," are affordable and tackle the needs particular to grassroots social justice work.
SCLN staff explained RCLA's emphasis on working side-by-side with social change leaders on leadership development programs. This work includes co-designing training curricula to offer peer-to-peer learning opportunities; utilizing a popular education approach; and the development of a recently launched online network: www.rclaleaders.ning.com.
The staff received valuable feedback from the members regarding other sessions and topics to offer as well as finding ways to locate the work within a broader continuum of social chance leadership development.
About the Social Change Leadership Network
RCLA has been working with more than 350 social change leaders and organizations, nationally and abroad, over the years through Leadership for a Changing World and other programs.
Through this work, RCLA learned that a major need faced by social change organizations and leaders is relevant and affordable leadership development opportunities. In addition, social change leaders often find themselves working in isolation and need spaces to connect and support each other. Finally, social change organizations lack opportunities to document their work and produce knowledge for social change.
In response to these needs, RCLA created the Social Change Leadership Network in 2008. SCLN aspires to bring together leaders to build knowledge and capacity that advances a broad agenda for social change. It also aims to connect committed academics and researchers with social change leaders to collaborate in advancing social change.
SCLN reflects RCLA's broader commitment to understanding, supporting and documenting the knowledge and work of social change leaders. The participatory action and popular education approaches of SCLN research and trainings are designed to "meet people where they are" and help facilitate experiential and collective learning.
