International Conference on Family Planning in Senegal: Findings From IIE-LDM

RCLA Deputy Director Amparo Hofmann-Pinilla will present findings from RCLA's participatory evaluation of the Institute of International Education's West Coast Center's Leadership Development for Mobilizing Reproductive Health (LDM) program at the 2011 International Conference on Family Planning: Research and Best Practices in Dakar, Senegal. The session will be co-facilitated with LDM Director Cheryl Francisconi, Nigeria National Evaluator Yashua Hamza, IIE Program Officer Ethiopia Tilahun, and LDM Philippines Program Associate Luz Francess "Bicbic" Chua. The conference, taking place from November 29th-December 2nd, will bring together participants to share research, best practices, and progress on national strategies to deliver family planning services.

The evaluation, completed between March 2010 and July 2011, assessed the LDM program's work to develop and sustain leaders working on the front lines of family planning and reproductive health issues in Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and the Philippines. RCLA's participatory evaluation examined whether large investments in leadership development actually makes a difference in the social change movements and fields they seek to impact.

The presentation on November 30th, Lessons Learned from a Broad-scale Evaluation of a Family Planning Leadership Development Program, will highlight the innovative participatory methodologies, lessons learned and main findings of the evaluation of the LDM program. Following the presentations, facilitators will invite the audience to reflect on the ways in which leadership programs can identify and measure their contribution to achieve their goals.

The Executive Summary of the evaluation's Final Report can be found here: Evaluation of the Leadership Development for Mobilizing Reproductive Health Program
