Mian has a strong background in the nuclear weapons and nuclear energy programs of India and Pakistan and works to analyze the risks from those programs. He is the editor and co-editor of several books, including Between Past and Future (Oxford, 2004), Out of the Nuclear Shadow (Zed Books, 2001), Pakistan's Crises of State and Society (Mashal, 1997); Pakistan's Atomic Bomb & the Search for Security (Gautam, 1995).
