Step 6: UNDERSTAND THE ADVISEMENT PROCESS

NYU Wagner encourages you to seek guidance from multiple sources throughout your academic career.  Just as no single mentor can fulfill all of a developing professional’s needs, you will receive richer and more valuable advice from multiple advisors.

Registration Advisement
Advisement begins with the online Registration Advisement Webinars held prior to the start of the term.

Peer Advisement
At the end of May, you will be assigned by program to a peer group of your classmates who will receive guidance from a Peer Advisor.  Your Peer Advisor will contact you after you have participated in a Registration Advisement Webinar.

Core Course Advisement
Once classes begin, you will be assigned a Core Course Faculty Advisor, who will be available to you until you declare your specialization.  Core Course Faculty Advisors can offer general advice about making the most of the academic programs at Wagner.  You will have the opportunity to meet your Core Course Faculty Advisor at the Faculty-Student Reception at the beginning of the semester.

Specialization Advisement
Midway through your first semester (if you are a full-time student) or your second semester (if part-time), you will declare a specialization and then be assigned a Faculty Advisor within your specialization.  While this person will serve as your primary advisor, you should seek advisement from a range of professors throughout your time at NYU Wagner, depending on your interests.
