Step 6: UNDERSTAND THE ADVISEMENT PROCESS

NYU Wagner encourages you to seek guidance from multiple sources throughout your academic career.  Just as no single mentor can fulfill all of a developing professional’s needs, you will receive richer and more valuable advice from multiple advisors.

Registration Advisement
Advisement begins with the online Registration Advisement Webinars held prior to the start of the term.

Peer Advisement
In the summer, you will receive guidance from a Peer Advisor. Your Peer Advisor will contact you after you have participated in a Registration Advisement Webinar.

Faculty Advisement
Your assigned Faculty Advisor is the EMPA Faculty Director, Professor Gordon Campbell. He will offer advice about making the most of the academic programs at Wagner. You will have the opportunity to meet him at the EMPA Welcome Reception and at the Student/Faculty Reception at the beginning of the semester. While David Elcott will serve as your primary advisor, you should seek advisement from a range of professors throughout your time at NYU Wagner, depending on your interests.

Individual Learning Plan
The goal of the EMPA program is to facilitate your learning and to make sure that you are talking to the right people, finding the best learning settings and courses, and meeting the requirements. Your Wagner experience should be as full and rich as possible. In order to help guide you, students in the EMPA program are to complete an Individual Learning Plan. Please complete the plan and return it to Gordon Campbell and Lola Odunsi so that they can assist you in a more tailored advisement conversation.
