STEP-BY-STEP REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: REVIEW DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

You may register for courses after reading each step in this Registration Guide. We encourage you to participate in a mandatory online Registration Advisement Webinar as soon as possible to gain a more comprehensive understanding of degree requirements as well as important tips on registration and planning your program.

EMPA: Concentration for Nurse Leaders Required Courses:

Fall 2014 Courses – 8 credits total

You must register for the following courses for this fall:

  • EXEC-GP 1830 Introduction to Health Policy and Management (4 credits)
  • HPAM-GP 4833 Health Care Mgt I: Control and Organizational Design (2 credits)
  • HPAM-GP 4834 Health Care Management II: Adaptation and the Professional (2 credits)

Note: These are all required core cohort courses that must be taken in your first fall semester.

Spring 2015 Courses – You may take 8-10 credits total. Students who wish to take a 4-credit course in January (intensive session within spring semester) may take 12 credits total.

You must register for the following courses in the spring:

  • CORE-GP 1021 Financial Management (4 credits)  OR
  • HPAM-GP 2855 Online Course: Budgeting for Health Professionals (4 credits)

Note: This is a required core cohort course that must be taken in your first spring semester.

  • Elective coursework (4 – 8 credits)

Summer 2015 Courses – You may take 8 credits total, but typically students take 2-4 credits in summer. Taking courses in summer is not required, but you may choose to do so.

  • Elective coursework (2 – 8 Credits)

Fall 2015 Courses – 8 credits total

You must register for the following courses in the fall:

  • EXEC-GP 2811 Continuous Quality Improvement for Healthcare Leaders (4 credits)

Note: This is a required core cohort course that must be taken in your second fall semester.

  • CAP-GP 3890 Capstone: Advanced Project for Nurse Leaders (2 credits)                   

Note: Capstone is a year-long required course, so you will register for it in your second fall and second spring.

  • Elective coursework (2 credits)

Spring 2016 Course – You may take 8-10 credits total. Students who wish to take a 4-credit course in January (intensive session within spring semester) may take 12 credits total.

You must register for the following course in the spring:

  • CAP-GP 3891 Capstone: Advanced Project for Nurse Leaders (2 credits)
  • Elective coursework (6 – 10 credits)
