Overview: The Women of Color Policy Network is home to the country's largest data repository on racial and ethnic minority women. The Network collects its own original data and consolidates data from a variety of other primary sources. Data collected is used inform public policy outcomes at the local, state and national levels. The repository allows us to explore the impact of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, and other markers of difference on individual and group access to resources, information and social mobility.
Typical data types found within our repository include: demographic profiles, health status, housing, education, and socioeconomic status. We also collect community and geographic data, which allows us to compare the status of women of color across regions and cities.
Our data repository is distinctive because we employ a mixed-method data model, which allows us to supplement survey data with rich qualitative narratives that provide us the opportunity to tell a fuller story and provide context for quantitative findings.
Elected officials, non-profit organizations, and Foundations rely on our data and analysis to create sound public policies and programs that are reflective of the lived realities of women and communities of color. Past and present partners include: the United Way, the New York City Council, The New York Women's Foundation, The New York Community Trust, and the National Urban League.
