A Taste of Latinx Professionals
ALAS will be hosting a series of Latinx professionals who will engage the NYU community on their areas of expertise, how that experience is for them as Latinx and how does their work affect society in general and the Latinx population in specific.
Ivonne Diaz is the President of HISPA (Hispanics Inspiring Students' Performance and Achievement), a 501(c)3 focused on mobilizing "Hispanic professionals to eradicate one key reason why our youth do not pursue education: a lack of role models." She will be describing her 10+ year journey as a social entrepreneur. She will discuss the origin of the organization, its internal structure, and how she uses her networks and resources to continue to build on this model. By the end of the presentation, students will leave understanding general principles that can be applicable to any social entrepreneurship startup and learning the story of one that has successfully overcome the stigmas accompany a social entrepreneurial organization.
