Kei Hayashi is the founder of BJH Advisors, a firm that provides analysis in and strategies for using economic development finance tools at the local, state and federal levels. BJH assists public and private entities through the planning, analytical and implementation phases of alternative financing methods for the purchase or acquisition of real estate. She is currently working with a renewable energy company seeking to secure a New Markets Tax Credit financing as well as assisting several NFPs and quasi-governmental organizations in analyzing various financing options for their real estate projects.
Prior to founding BJH, she was a Vice President with Bay Area Economics (BAE), a firm committed to creating sustainable communities by providing real estate economics and development advisory services to clients throughout the U.S. Through BAE, Kei advised the Port Authority of NY & NJ and the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation on transit oriented development strategies in Jamaica, Queens.
Prior to BAE, Kei was a Senior Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the Executive Director of the New York City Industrial Development Agency (NYCIDA). NYCEDC is a quasi-governmental entity that is the City's primary vehicle for promoting economic growth. NYCIDA is a public benefit corporation which provides tax-exempt financing and tax incentives to businesses and not-for-profits in order to promote employment growth and economic diversification. For the last 5 of her 13 years at NYCEDC, Kei managed the Financing Department which was responsible for administering the programs of the NYCIDA and managing and creating financial products and programs that leveraged City investment with other sources of capital in development projects. This work also involved providing financial analysis to City agencies and other divisions of NYCEDC on project feasibility.
Kei also worked for Senator Frank Lautenberg, for a business consulting firm, and for the Regional Plan Association. She holds an MPA from Princeton and a BA from Wesleyan University.

As part of the core curriculum of the NYU Wagner Masters program, Capstone teams spend an academic year addressing challenges and identifying opportunities for a client organization or conducting research on a pressing social question. Wagner's Capstone program provides students with a centerpiece of their graduate experience whereby they are able to experience first-hand turning the theory of their studies into practice under the guidance of an experienced faculty member. Projects require students to get up-to-speed quickly on a specific content or issue area; enhance key process skills including project management and teamwork; and develop competency in gathering, analyzing, and reporting out on data. Capstone requires students to interweave their learning in all these areas, and to do so in real time, in an unpredictable, complex, real-world environment.
