Spencer is the Head of Machine Learning at Preverity Inc., a data and analytics startup focused on serving Medical and Professional Liability insurers. At Preverity, Spencer focuses on the development and implementation of machine learning models for medical malpractice risk stratification, and on research and development for product innovation. Prior to joining Preverity, Spencer was Sr. Director of Data Science at Tenet Healthcare, a Fortune 500 healthcare services company. At Tenet, he founded and led the data science team. This team built data science pipelines, then developed, implemented, and evaluated data science products on a national scale. Prior to Tenet, he was an Information Scientist at the RAND Corporation and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. His academic work was at the intersection of information technology and healthcare outcomes. He has published research and commentary in leading peer reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Health Affairs. Spencer received a PhD in Biomedical Informatics and a master’s degree in biostatistics, both from the University of Utah.
