Developing Management and Leadership Skills
This course examines the mix of skills, values, and knowledge required for effective performance by individual managers and leaders. There is in-depth examination of concrete skills including interpersonal communication, empowerment, gaining power and influence, and leading change. Students will also examine some core dimensions of self-awareness needed to be effective managers and leaders including emotional intelligence, cognitive style, tolerance of ambiguity, social style and locus of control. This course makes extensive use of skill practice and reflection. Students will also have an opportunity to gain feedback from people they work with on their managerial and leadership effectiveness.
