Parking and the City: Regulation, Market, and Mobility

Course Description

This course will introduce students the various parking policies and regulations adopted by local governments and their impacts on urban form, mobility, housing affordability, environment, etc.  The topics covered include the maximum and minimum requirement for off-street parking, metered parking on commercial streets, resident parking permits, alternate side parking, street standards for subdivisions, parking technology, etc. Case studies include U.S cities such as New York, San Francisco, Chicago and cities from other developed and developing countries such as London, Vienna, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Abu Dhabi, etc.
