Ananya Roy is Professor of Urban Planning, Social
Welfare, and Geography and the inaugural Director
of the Institute on Inequality and Democracy at
the University of California, Los Angeles. Roy’s
scholarship focuses on dispossession and
displacement in the global South and global North
as well as on the poor people’s movements that
forge rebellion and insurgency. Her current
research is concerned with processes of racial
banishment in Los Angeles.
