Orientation Over Time

We use the phrase Orientation Over Time to describe our approach to welcoming new students into the Wagner community. We see orientation as a series of activities and resources designed to build on each other and prepare you for your first term at Wagner. We want your transition to Wagner to be as smooth as possible, so we provide you with all the details necessary to help you get the best possible start to your graduate school journey.

Some of the early activities take place online, but the most intensive mandatory ones take place in New York during the three weeks before the first day of class, which is why it is critical for you to relocate to the New York City area no later than August 15 if you are joining us from elsewhere.

In addition to your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) consultation over the summer (see Step 3 of this guide), all incoming Global EMPA students will participate in the following mandatory orientation events.

EMPA-Only Orientation Activities

Global EMPA Advisement Webinar

This 90-minute webinar will include question and answer time with your Student Services Program Advisor, Hannah Atchison. Hannah will provide critical information pertaining to your foundational courses this fall, the Global EMPA program's structure and requirements, orientation tasks and resources, and important academic policies. Hannah will follow-up with your cohort directly to schedule time at the end of July for this session.

EMPA New Student Retreat

Sunday, August 16, 9:30am-6:00pm

The New Student Retreat is our signature orientation event and is mandatory for all incoming students. At the daylong retreat, you'll begin to develop academic and professional skills that will be critical to your success during your time at Wagner and beyond.

Orientation Activities for all Incoming Students

The International Student Orientation is mandatory for all students studying in the United States on an F-1 or J-1 visa.  It will cover immigration regulations connected to studying and working in the U.S. as well as resources available at NYU and Wagner.  It will also include opportunities to gain advice from your fellow students.
