Past Projects

Tackling issues of public concern requires the engagement of actors across sectors. Our work on leadership development has focused on convening private, government and nonprofit organizations to engage in dialogue about social issues. This archive represents our past projects in leadership development.

NYU Wagner and RCLA served as partners in Bloomberg Philanthropies' Innovation Delivery Teams initiative by documenting and translating key findings into resources and designing and managing the Bloomberg Innovation Delivery Fellowship.  Learn more

The Global Social Change Leadership Institute was an intensive two-week long leadership development program that provided an opportunity for students and emerging leaders from the United States and around the world to strengthen their leadership, learn about cutting-edge leadership and social change research, and see firsthand what makes organizations successful in advancing social justice. The Association of Performing Arts Presenters and RCLA partnered to develop the Leadership Development Institute (LDI) with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the American Express Foundation.  The LDI brought together leaders from across the country to collaborate on essential leadership practices to help arts organizations adapt and thrive in unpredictable times. People are the most important asset for social change and nonprofit organizations looking to increase their performance and impact. To help organizations best use these assets, funders and grantmakers can make intentional investments to train leadership skills at grantee organizations.

Led by former NYU Wagner visiting fellow-in-residence Rusty M. Stahl, Fund the People aimed to increase philanthropic investing in leadership development for grantee organizations. Accenture and NYU Wagner developed a quarterly breakfast series for public sector managers to discuss in some depth the multiple managerial and leadership challenges of implementing large scale change. Each breakfast was organized around a central strategic and managerial question of particular relevance to large scale change efforts in New York City government. Learn more
