No minimum score is required, and the GRE is optional for all programs except the PhD in Public Administration and MS in Public Policy.

Courses occasionally have waitlists. If you place yourself on a waitlist, remember that the next eligible person on waitlist is automatically enrolled when a space opens up in the course.

What are the average TOEFL/IELTS scores for admission?
If you are submitting a TOEFL, we require a score of 100 or above. For the IELTS, we require a score of 7.0 or above (7.5 or above strongly encouraged). If you are applying for the EMPA for Global Policy Leaders, a TOEFL of 109 or IELTS of 7.5 is required.
How can I open a bank account as an international student?
It is not advisable to walk around New York with a large amount of cash. You may wish to open a bank account before entering the United States. Check with a bank in your home country about the easiest way to transfer sums of money in U.S.

No, however our most competitive applicants have a GPA of at least 3.0
Are merit-based scholarships available?
Yes, the program has limited fellowship and scholarship resources. Around 20% of the incoming class will receive merit-based aid. We assess all applications for merit-based scholarships. Our fellowships do require a separate essay in the application.
How do I know if I have the quantitative skills required for the MS in Public Policy?
If you have an interest in policy analysis, regardless of your major, you are encouraged to apply to the program. The curriculum is significantly focused on quantitative courses, including economics, statistical analysis, and financial management.
What percentage of applicants are admitted to the PhD program?
The program admits approximately 5-8 students to the PhD Program each year. The admit rate is around 5%.

Our CAHME-accredited, on-campus MPA in Health Policy & Management receives several hundred applications each year for an entering class of around 50-60 students. The Online MHA is also a very competitive program.

Is it possible to switch from part-time to full-time enrollment?
Yes! You may change your enrollment status from full-time to part-time, or vice versa, without notifying the University.

How do I submit official transcript information from a non-U.S. school?
When reviewing your credentials we will need to know the courses you completed, the grades/evaluations you received for those classes, and that you were awarded your degree.
How do I qualify for half-time equivalency and what is the process for having it added to my record?
The University defines "full time" as taking 12 or more credits in one semester and "half time" as taking 6 or more credits in one semester. A student's enrollment status has potential implications for financial aid, particularly as it pertains to Federal student loans.
How is the MS in Public Policy different from the MPA with a specialization in Policy?

May I defer my admission for a year or more after acceptance?
Is student housing available to PhD students?
A limited amount of housing is available. Apartments are available only to matriculated, full-time students. Both furnished and unfurnished apartments are available. Generally, university housing for couples is not available unless both will be matriculated at NYU.
