Student leaders are the force behind some of the most compelling programming at NYU Wagner and play a key role in building bridges among diverse student groups, between students and the school, and NYU Wagner and the greater community.
The Wagner Leadership Academy (WLA) was launched in the fall of 2009 to provide a space for leaders of graduate student organizations to enhance their leadership capacity.
The WLA offers student leaders an opportunity to connect with classmates in a new context and broaden their networks. It also gives them a space to reflect on how they are taking up their roles and helping each other approach leadership challenges. Further, the Academy offers students useful tools they can bring back to and apply in the work of their organizations at NYU Wagner and beyond.
The theme for the 2012-2013 year of the Wagner Leadership Academy is “Connect. Communicate. Engage.”
Student leaders will take up the following questions across the four sessions:
- How can we help build more distributed leadership?
- Which structures and processes might lead to innovative practices and sustainability?
- What new collaborations should we consider?
- How can we engage people outside of our boards to help us identify and achieve our goals?
The Wagner Leadership Academy is offered through a partnership between the Research Center for Leadership in Action, the Wagner Dean’s Office, Student Affairs, and the Wagner Student Association. Space is provided at the quarterly sessions to leaders from every WSA group.
