Delivering the Goods: The Freight Needs of a Growing Population

On June 6, 2007, the NYU Wagner Rudin Center of Transportation Policy & Management with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) hosted a seminal conference. Roughly 300 individuals from the public and private sector, representing government officials, planners, engineers, consultants, freight businesses, and retailers, attended the conference. Building on two very successful conferences held by NYMTC in past years (one in conjunction with the NYU Wagner Rudin Center) addressed the key issues affecting and affected by current and forecasted freight needs in the New York metropolitan region. Astrid Glynn, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), provided the keynote address. In addition, the conference featured two panels of experts who touched upon the relationship between freight and the region's economy, current constrains, technological advancements, and future challenges and opportunities for meeting the needs of the region's growing population.
