Applying for a Fellowship

Fellowships are different from scholarships due to specific programmatic requirements and funding levels. Fellowships are merit-based, and corresponding selection committees look to identify fellows that best fit the intent of each award. Prospective students interested in applying for any of the fellowships listed below must complete your application package by December 12, 2011.

Due to the competitive nature of fellowship selection, fellowship finalists are required to reply to NYU Wagner’s offer within five business days of notification.

African Women Public Service Fellowship 

The African Women Public Service Fellowship, made possible by a donation from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, offers African women the opportunity for graduate study at Wagner to prepare them for public service in their home countries.

The Lisa Goldberg Fellowships

The Lisa Goldberg Fellowships are dedicated to the memory of Lisa Goldberg, noted philanthropist, celebrated president of the Charles H. Revson Foundation, and beloved wife of John Sexton, the president of New York University.

Scholarships for Jewish Leadership and for students interested in philanthropy are merit based awards for full-time students, and awards range up to full tuition.

Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation- Graduate Fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship

The Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Program in Social Entrepreneurship is designed to attract, encourage and train a new generation of leaders in public service. Each year, the program will expose a highly selective group of graduate and undergraduate students from throughout New York University to the cross-disciplinary skills, experiences and networking opportunities needed to advance and support their efforts to realize sustainable and scalable pattern-breaking solutions to society's most intractable problems.

  • $50,000 awarded over two years

This program provides fellowships for 10 graduate students among all of New York University's 14 schools each year. Fellows will participate in a newly developed cross-disciplinary course, act as mentors to the undergraduate scholarship recipients and attend fellowship-related activities.

Applicants must submit the Fellowship Application to the Wagner admissions office by December 12, 2011.

David Bohnett Public Service Fellowship

The David Bohnett Public Service Fellowship will allow two fellows a terrific opportunity to intern at the highest level of NYC government. The third fellow will get to take on exciting work with the current President of the US Conference of Mayors, which has an ongoing partnership with the Wagner School.

  • Full tuition over two years; $5,000 Summer internship stipend
  • All Degrees/Programs
  • Full-Time
  • Incoming Fall-Start
  • Candidates will be interested in working for municipal governments and will complete a summer internship with a Deputy Mayor or the current President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

 

Rice Urban Studies Fellowship

The Rice Urban Studies Fellowship is made possible by a generous grant from The Rice Family Foundation. This fellowship attracts outstanding students who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to tackling significant urban issues.

  • Up to full Tuition over one academic year – Fall and Spring Semester
  • MUP or MPA-Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy Students
  • Full-Time
  • Incoming Fall-Start
  • To apply for this fellowship, each applicant should write a separate essay to accompany the general application explaining his or her commitment to cities or urban issues.
