About the Exhibit:
Curated by Frankie Crescioni-Santoni, Raza con "A" brings together four New York City-based Latin American artists whose bodies of work explore themes of ethnic, cultural, and gender identity. The award-winning artists taking part in the exhibition are a supremely talented group comprised of Argentinean photographer and Project Luz founder Sol Aramendi  (solaramendi.com); Mexican painter, muralist, and multi-media artist Andrea Arroyo (andreaarroyo.com); Colombian painter, collagist, and mixed-media artist Maria Berrio (mariaberrio.com); and Puerto Rican painter, collagist, and photographer Rodriguez Calero  (rodriguezcalero.com).

The project, staged in recognition of Latino Heritage Month at NYU, seeks to present a diversity-driven display that pays homage to Latina/o and Latin American heritage, as well as the tremendous contributions of female artists to the New York City visual arts scene. The accompanying panel discussion will serve as a platform to engage artists, scholars, practitioners, and the public in a lively dialogue on the exhibition themes, with a focus on the role Latina visual artists can play in promoting social and gender equity agendas.

Moderator:
Rosa Tejada (Dominican Republic), New York Historical Society educator and former Metropolitan Museum of Art associate museum educator

Panelists:
Denise Carvalho (Brazil), independent curator, Wexner Center for the Arts Mellon Fellow, and professor of art history and critical theory
Vanessa Perez (Puerto Rico), author and Brooklyn College-CUNY professor of Puerto Rican and Latino studies

Both the panel discussion and reception are limited-space events.

Raza con “A” is co-presented by the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS) and the NYU Department of Social & Cultural Analysis/Latino Studies Program.
